ROADMAP

Roadmap

What we intend to build next in JustBuild.World, in roughly the order it will be built.

What we intend to build next, in roughly the order it will be built. Everything that has already arrived is on the change log, dated by the day it landed.

The plan below is all about building: blocks, shapes, tools, saving, and how the game feels in a browser tab. Read it as a direction rather than a timetable, because the order moves whenever something underneath turns out to be shakier than it looked.

Being built now

The next changes to reach a playable build. These are the ones being worked on, not ideas waiting their turn.

A clear patch of ground

A flat or empty world to start from, with the ground under it chosen by you, so the first tap opens a floor instead of a hillside you have to clear.

Undo and redo you can reach on a phone

Undo and redo buttons on screen, dimmed when there is nothing left to reverse, so a mistake on a phone or tablet no longer needs a keyboard.

Room for a bigger build

A change in how a world is kept in the browser, so it is saved in pieces as you build rather than all at once, and a large project runs further before the browser runs out of room for it.

Up next

These follow from the work above and are expected, but their detail still moves while they are being made.

Water that flows

Water that spreads from a source until it fills the shape you dug, settles at the right height inside a half-block placed in it, and sand and gravel that drop when you dig them out from underneath.

Big edits in one action

Point at two corners to choose a region, then fill it, hollow it, swap one material for another, or clear it entirely, with the whole thing reversed by one press of undo.

Copy a build and put it down again

Pick up something you have built, see it outlined where you want it, turn it a quarter turn or mirror it, then set it down or send it away, all before anything in the world changes.

Signs you can write on

Signs that hold several lines of your own text and keep them with the world, so they still say the same thing when you come back.

Commands that finish themselves

Typed commands that complete as you write them, and one large command counted as one change, so undoing a filled region does not mean pressing undo sixty times.

Later

Real intentions with the order between them not settled yet, held back by the foundations above rather than by doubt.

Detail smaller than a block

A finer grid inside each block, so a window surround can mix materials in one piece and a wall can carry a moulding instead of a set of steps.

Slopes and angles

Wedge shapes and pieces you can rotate, so a roof can be a slope rather than a staircase of half-blocks.

Thinner walls and more shapes per material

Panels that stand on edge, and more materials available in every shape, so a build does not have to be built out of whichever family happens to offer them.

More countryside to walk out into

More kinds of biome, and things standing out in them, placed by the seed rather than by luck, so walking away from base finds something that was already there.

A controller, and controls you can change

Gamepad support, every button changeable, and settings to hide the interface, raise contrast or turn the camera shake off.

A good view of the finished thing

Put the editing overlays away to look at the build itself, and keep a viewpoint so you can stand in the same spot again later.

Footsteps, and somewhere that sounds like it

Sound that belongs to the place you are standing, and footsteps that change with whatever is under your feet.

Exploring

Worth doing, not yet scheduled. Each of these has a question attached to it, and the honest answer might turn out to be no.

Light you can colour

Lamps that throw colour onto the wall behind them. Coloured light asks a great deal of a browser tab, so this waits for a measurement saying the cost is affordable, and stays out if it is not.

A library of your own builds

Keep the shapes you like and drop them into a different world. This needs the copy tools above to exist first, so it is waiting on a predecessor rather than on a decision.

More room to build in

A longer distance you can actually build at. A browser tab has a hard ceiling here, so the goal is a limit that holds and is stated honestly, rather than endless ground.

Not on this list

Saying what we are not building belongs on the roadmap, because it changes what you should expect from the game.

Hunger, health and creatures

Survival play is parked, along with everything that exists to serve it: health, hunger, creatures and crafting. None of it appears above, and if it is ever built it will arrive with its own plan rather than as a checkbox here.

Accounts, and building in the same world as someone else

There is no account to make, no server to join and nothing to pay for, which is also why your worlds live on your own device. Building in one world together would mean someone running machines and paying for them, so it is not on this list.

Why there are no dates

A date written down before the work exists is a promise nobody earned, and the honest version of one changes every week. The order is the part we can actually keep.

When the order moves

Occasionally a finished piece turns out to be shakier than it looked, and the work stacked underneath it has to wait while that is repaired. That is why the page groups things instead of numbering them.

When something is finished

Not when it moves up this page. A change is finished when you can use it in the game and it appears on the change log, and only the change log says when.

Tell us what you want built

Builders asking for something are how most of this list got here. Write to contact@justbuild.world with the build you were attempting and what got in the way. To see what has already landed, read the change log.
